Renowned author and community leader Jim Diers will deliver and informative and valuable keynote address at the 2010 ICA Conference dinner on "Crime Prevention Through Community Empowerment"

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design continues to make a valuable contribution to our communities. To maximize its effectiveness, however, the movement must be guided by a vision that goes beyond preventing crime to creating more livable places and a more equitable society. Design concepts intended to keep criminals out must be accompanied by a commitment to bring the community into the larger planning and development processes. Jim Diers will explore the relationship between people and place, the principles and tools for broad and inclusive community engagement, and the key role of community in crime prevention.  He will use photos and stories from around the world to illustrate how a more holistic, community-driven approach can reduce crime by strengthening social capital.
