Please find below information regarding the conference subthemes.

CONFERENCE SUBTHEMES:

1. Environment and Sustainable Development

According to the United Nations (UN), sustainable development "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Sustainable development consists of three pillars for balanced development: economic development, social development and environmental protection.

2. Citizen Participation and Community Cohesion

Community cohesion is an integral process by which individuals and communities can reach their full potential. This process is multidimensional and multifactorial and depends on various dimensions or components that are interrelated and interdependent.

In short, community cohesion seeks to address the rights, responsibilities and obligations of all citizens. Building community cohesion should not result in disadvantage to any one group within the community. Rather, interaction fosters local identification, belonging and pride and encourages citizens to actively participate in improving quality of life in their neighborhoods and communities. In this context, division, tensions and conflicts are identified and addressed respectfully for a well-functioning community.

3. Prevention of Violence

Violence is intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person or a group or community, that either results in, or has a high likelihood of resulting in, injury, death, psychological harm, impaired development or other forms of hardship.

DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION WAS FRIDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2019.
