Hello, I have recently come across an argument that states that motion activated security lighting provides a false sense of safety and can actually reduce security. The argument states that an offender is able to approach closer to a target before the opportunity to be observed occurs.

I am wondering if anyone has research, experience or an opinion on this issue. I am interested in how motion activated (passive infrared detection) lighting applies to home/business security.
